You Are Not Beside the River of Life; You Are in It

ਤੂੰ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਸਭ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

You are the River - all are within You.

All beings and creatures are your play-things.

The united ones are separated, and the separated ones are re-united. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are the River — and all of us are within You.

Other than You, there is no one at all.

Every being and creature is part of Your play; the joined are parted, and the parted are joined again.

You are not standing beside the river of life — you are in it, made of the same water.
The deeper layer

The luminous image: "You are the River — all are within You." We are not beside the One, watching it flow; we are in it, carried by it, made of it. This is Ik Onkar as a single current in which every life moves. The partings and reunions of life are ripples in one water — the wondrous play of the One.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to think of yourself as part of one great flow, not separate from it?
