With the sparkling jewel of spiritual wisdom, the heart is illumined, and ignorance is dispelled. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Join the true company; in the company of the holy, sing the One's praises.

With the sparkling jewel of wisdom, the heart lights up, and the dark of not-knowing is gone.

Wisdom is a light that comes on in the heart — and it's caught in good company.
The deeper layer

The opening gathers two of Guru Ram Das's loves: Sat Sangat (the true company) and the jewel of wisdom that lights the heart. Wisdom here is not information but illumination — a jewel whose light "dispels ignorance." And it is found in company, not alone.

A Question to Sit With

Whose company makes things clearer for you, almost without trying?
