But taking me by the arm, my Husband Lord has led me to His Bed. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
He didn't weigh my good points or my bad. He didn't look at my beauty, my color, or my finery.
I don't even know the ways of wisdom or good manners.
And yet, taking me by the arm, my Beloved led me home to Him.
You don't have to qualify — the Beloved takes you by the arm and leads you home as you are.
The purest statement of grace beyond merit: the Beloved "does not consider my merits or demerits," nor beauty, nor accomplishment — and chooses the soul anyway, "taking me by the arm." This is Gurprasad at its most radical: love that checks no qualifications (cf. the upside-down vessel — grace falls freely).
A Question to Sit With
What is the difference between being loved for what you achieve and being loved just as you are?
