saach samHaalih saach samaahi. ||1|| rahaa-o.
They contemplate the True Lord, and are absorbed in the True Lord. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

They alone are alive whose minds are filled with the One.

They keep the True One in mind, and they melt into the True One.

You are most alive when your mind is filled with what is real and true.
The deeper layer

You are alive when your mind is filled with the One, and you melt into what is true.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Say jan jeevay jin har man maahi: those whose minds hold the One are the ones who live. Saach samhaalih is keeping the True One close, the way you hold something precious. Saach samaahi is melting into the True One, like a drop of water melting into the sea.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so real and true to you that thinking about it makes you feel more alive?
