The Dear Lord Himself knows His own bountiful blessings.

This mind blossoms forth in the Guru's Shabad, chanting the Name of the Lord, the Giver of virtue. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The dear One alone knows the One's own gifts.

Through the Guru's Word this mind bursts into bloom, singing the Naam of the One, the Giver of every good quality.

A mind singing the Name is a mind in full bloom.
The deeper layer

The One knows the One's own gifts, and through the Guru's Word the mind blossoms like a spring flower.

This is the pause line, the rahaa-o, the center of the shabad.

Har kee daat har jee-o jaanai — the One alone knows the One's own gifts, and when to give them. Then comes the spring picture. Ih man ma-oli-aa — this mind has burst into bloom, through the Guru's Word.

The One is called gundaataa — the Giver of every good quality. Think of a garden. The gardener did not make the sunshine or the rain. Goodness is like that. We receive it as a gift, the way a flower receives the sun.

A Question to Sit With

What makes your mind feel like it is blooming — awake and glad?
