The Sweetest Fruit

ਇਤੁ ਮਨਿ ਮਉਲਿਐ ਭਇਆ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥
it man ma-uli-ai bha-i-aa anand.
This mind blossoms forth, and I am in ecstasy.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥੨॥
amrit fal paa-i-aa naam gobind. ||2||
I am blessed with the Ambrosial Fruit of the Naam, the Name of the Lord of the Universe. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

This mind blossoms, and I am full of joy.

I am given the nectar fruit of the Naam of the Lord of the Universe.

A blooming mind bears the sweetest fruit — joy.
The deeper layer

When the mind blooms, joy comes all by itself. Anand means deep joy, the kind that bubbles up. The blooming mind also bears fruit. Amrit fal paa-i-aa naam gobind — I received the nectar-fruit, the Naam of the Lord of the world. Amrit is nectar that never runs out.

Picture a fruit tree in your yard. You care for the tree, and the fruit comes when it is ready. Joy works the same way. It grows.

A Question to Sit With

What is a joy that feels sweeter than any treat?
