Guru Nanak has shown mercy to me; I have met the Lord, the Lord of the forest. ||4||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One pours kindness on those who love the One.

Guru Nanak has been kind to me, and I have met the One, the Lord of the forest.

Kindness poured out like warm rain is where the One is met.
The deeper layer

The One is kind to those who love, and through the Guru's kindness you meet the Lord of the green woods.

Kirpaa Dhaaree means the One pours out kindness on the devotees, like warm rain on a garden.

Banvaaree means the One of the forest, the Lord of all green, growing things. It is a perfect name for the spring raag. Think of a walk in the park in spring, when every tree is bursting with new leaves. The One is met right there, in the living world.

Guru Ram Das, the fourth Guru, closes the shabad by thanking Guru Nanak. Gur naanak tuthaa means Guru Nanak was kind to me. That kindness is how the meeting happened.

A Question to Sit With

Where in the living, growing world do you most feel something bigger than yourself?
