In plain words

O dear Lord of the Universe, be kind and bring me into the Sangat, the true gathering.

I was filled to the brim with the grime of wrongs from many, many lives. Joining the Sangat, the One made me clean again.

The Sangat can make you feel new again.
The deeper layer

The Sangat washes away grime piled up over many lives.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Gobind jee-o satsangat mayl: dear Lord of the Universe, unite me with the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Here it is the washing place. Kilvikh mal means the grime of wrong things done, piled up over many lifetimes. In the Sangat, it rinses off like old dust.

Think of coming home muddy from a football game and stepping into a warm shower. The dirt runs away and you feel new. Mil sangat kar parabh hanchhay: joining the Sangat, the One made me pure again.

A Question to Sit With

After a hard day, who or what helps you feel fresh and clean inside?
