The Lord, in His Mercy, has led servant Nanak to find the Guru; I was a sinner, and now I have become immaculate and pure. ||||4||2||4||

In plain words

I am low, a big, heavy lump of clay. O One, pour Your kindness on me and join me with You.

Nanak says: the One was kind, and I, Your servant, found the Guru. I had fallen, and now I am made pure.

Ordinary clay in kind hands can become something beautiful.
The deeper layer

A heavy lump of clay, in the One's kind hands, is made clean and pure.

Dheem means a heavy lump of clay. It is the humblest picture a person could draw of themselves. But clay is also what a potter uses to make something beautiful. So the heavy lump becomes raw material, waiting for a kind hand.

Think of play dough that looks like nothing much on the table. In the right hands it becomes something lovely. Guru Ram Das says the One, in kindness, led him to the Guru. Ham kee-ay patit paveechhay — I was low, and I was made clean and pure.

A Question to Sit With

What is something plain or ordinary that became beautiful once someone cared for it?
