O Lord, if it pleases You, hear my prayer; servant Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary. ||4||3||5||

In plain words

O my Master, please do not weigh up my karma, my deeds. Protect the honor of the one who belongs to You.

If it pleases You, O One, hear my prayer. Nanak, Your servant, says: I come into Your shelter.

You can come as you are, mistakes and all, and still be kept.
The deeper layer

You can ask the One to look past your deeds and keep you close.

hamray karam na bichrahu — please do not judge me by my deeds. thaakur means Master. He asks the Master to protect his honor as one of the One's own.

Think of a child who broke something and runs to a parent, saying, "I'm sorry. Please still hug me." The child is not bringing a list of good deeds. They are just coming close. Nanak does the same. saran paveeDhay — he comes into the One's shelter and stays.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel when someone forgives you without keeping a list of what you did wrong?
