In plain words

O Lord, Madhusoodan, show me Your kindness. Be kind, and bring me to meet the Guru.

Nanak says: I have reached a peace so complete that nothing can shake it. Meeting the holy people, I sing the praises of the One.

The deepest peace often ends in a song.
The deeper layer

A deep, steady peace comes when you meet the Guru and sing with holy people.

The verse calls the One Madhusoodan, an old name from the Indian stories, and asks twice for kindness: kar kirpaa — be kind, and bring me to the Guru.

Jan naanak nirbaan pad paa-i-aa — Nanak, the One's servant, has reached nirbaan pad. Nirbaan is the same word as nirvana. Here it means a peace so complete that nothing can shake it, like the deep water at the bottom of a lake that stays still while the wind whips the surface. And the peace comes with a song. Mil saadhoo har gun gaa-ee-ai — meeting the holy, he sings the praises of the One.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel completely peaceful, what do you feel like doing?
