Verse 5 of 5

Every Love Lives Inside One Love

ਸਰਬ ਰੰਗ ਇਕ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sarab rang ik rang maahi.
All love is contained in the Love of the One Lord.
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ॥
sarab sukhaa sukh har kai naa-ay.
All comforts are contained in the Comfort of the Lord's Name.
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਇਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
tiseh paraapat ih niDhaan.
He alone receives this treasure,
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੨॥
naanak gur jis karay daan. ||4||2||
O Nanak, unto whom the Guru gives His gift. ||4||2||

In plain words

Every love is held inside the love of the One.

Every comfort is held inside the comfort of the One's Name.

Nanak says: this treasure comes to the one the Guru gives it to, as a gift.

Every love you feel is a drop of one great love.
The deeper layer

Every love and every comfort is found inside the love of the One, and it comes as a gift.

Sarab rang ik rang maahi — all colors, all loves, are held in one color, one love. Think of the colors of a rainbow. They look separate, and they all come from one white light.

Sarab sukhaa sukh har kai naa-ay — every comfort is inside the comfort of the Naam. Tiseh paraapat ih nidhaan — this treasure, nidhaan, comes to that one. Naanak gur jis karay daan — to the one the Guru gives it to. It is daan, a gift, always waiting for an open heart.

A Question to Sit With

What are some different kinds of love you feel — and how might they all be one love?
