One Thought, One Crossing

ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਨਾ ॥

Meditate on the One Lord, O my foolish mind,

and you shall cross over to the other side in an instant. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my foolish mind, think of the One alone,

and you will cross over to the other side in an instant.

Holding the One in mind can carry you across in a single moment.
The deeper layer

After all that hard outer effort, here is the simple way. Keep the One in mind, and you cross over in a moment.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. ayk Dhi-aavahu — think lovingly of the One. Then paar utar jaahi ik khinaa — you cross to the other side in an instant.

Think of trying to open a locked door with every tool you own. Then someone who loves you simply opens it from the inside. Grace is close, not a prize at the end of years of tricks. The "other side" means peace, feeling whole, being at home.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that feels hard until the moment you simply decide to do it?
