Sikhism·Raag Basant·Shabad 41
Verse 5 of 5

It's All One Great Play

ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
tujh bin doojaa ko-ay naahi.
Other than You, there is no one at all.
ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਖੇਲੁ ਤੁਝ ਮਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
sabh tayro khayl tujh meh samaahi.
Everything is Your play; it all merges again into You.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇ ॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakh lay.
As it pleases Your Will, save me, Lord.
ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੇ ॥੪॥੪॥
sukh naanak pooraa gur milay. ||4||4||
O Nanak, peace is obtained by meeting with the Perfect Guru. ||4||4||

In plain words

Without You, there is no one else at all.

Everything is Your play, and it all merges back into You.

However it pleases You, keep me safe.

Nanak says: peace comes from meeting the perfect Guru.

The whole world is one great play, and you are part of it.
The deeper layer

There is nothing outside the One. Everything is the One's play, and peace comes by meeting the Guru.

Tujh bin doojaa ko-ay naahi — besides You, there is no other. Sabh tayro khayl tujh meh samaahi — it is all Your khayl, Your play, and it all merges back into You. Think of waves on the sea. They rise, play, and sink back into the same water they came from.

Ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakh lay — keep me however pleases You. The flow of existence knows the way. Sukh naanak pooraa gur milay — Nanak says peace comes from meeting the perfect Guru.

A Question to Sit With

If life were a game the whole universe was playing, what part would you want to play?
