Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My Beloved is the support of my breath of life and my mind.

My soul, my breath, my wealth — all of it is Yours, O Lord.

The one who holds you up was never far away.
The deeper layer

The One holds up your breath and your mind, and everything you have belongs to the One.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Mayray pareetam paraan aDhaar man — my Beloved holds up my paraan, my breath of life, and my mind. ADhaar means support, like the pillar under a bridge.

Then: jee-o paraan sabh tayro Dhan. My soul, my breath, everything I own — all of it is Yours. Think of borrowing a bike from someone you love. You enjoy every ride. But you know it was theirs all along.

A Question to Sit With

What holds you up when you feel wobbly inside?
