What Makes a Place Bloom

sant janee kee-aa updays.
The Saints have shared the Teachings with me.
jah gobind bhagat so Dhan days.
Blessed is that country where the devotees of the Lord of the Universe dwell.
har bhagtiheen udi-aan thaan.
But that place where the Lord's devotees are not, is wilderness.
gur parsaad ghat ghat pachhaan. ||2||
By Guru's Grace, realize the Lord in each and every heart. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The saints have shared this teaching with me:

blessed is the land where the devotees of the Lord of the World live.

A place without love for the One is a wilderness.

By the Guru's grace, recognize the One in every heart.

It is the loving hearts that make a place bloom.
The deeper layer

A place blooms where people love the One, and by the Guru's grace you can see the One in every heart.

dhann days — blessed the land of devotees; udiaan thaan (wilderness) where they are absent. ghat ghat pachhaan — recognizing the One in every heart.

A Question to Sit With

What makes a place feel warm and alive to you — the building, or the people?
