The mortal does not know the Primal Lord God; he does not understand hmself. He is engrossed in doubt and egotism. ||1||

In plain words

A person does not know the One, the root they grew from, and does not understand themselves.

They are wrapped in a fog of doubt and in ego, that puffed-up all-about-me feeling.

It is hard to know yourself while a fog of all-about-me is in the way.
The deeper layer

Without knowing your root, you cannot see yourself clearly, and a fog of doubt and pride gets in the way.

Mool na boojhai means not knowing the root. Mool is the root, the Source that everything grows from. Aap na soojhai means not understanding yourself.

Bharam means doubt. The verse says we get caught up in doubt and in "me, me, me." Think of a foggy morning when you cannot see the trees in the park, even though they are right there. The fog is not a crime. It is just something that needs to clear. When it lifts, you can see the root, and yourself too.

A Question to Sit With

What helps the fog clear so you can see yourself more honestly?
