Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Your palace is beyond my sight, my Beloved. Your will is hard to accept.
Nanak says: I have fallen down at Your door. I am silly and know so little — please keep me safe!
When the One's home is out of reach and the One's way is hard to follow, you can rest at the One's door and ask to be kept safe.
Tayraa mahal agochar means Your home cannot be seen or reached. Bikham tayraa hai bhaanaa means Your will, the way things unfold, is hard to go along with.
Dheh pa-i-aa du-aarai means I have fallen down at Your door. Think of a tired child after a long day, flopping down at the front door of home. There is nothing to show, just the wish to be let in.
MugaDh ajaanaa means foolish and not knowing. It means "I am still learning." The prayer is simple: rakh layvhu, please keep me safe.
Where do you go, and to whom, when you just need to rest and be kept safe?
