Verse 3 of 5

Everything Rises and Rests in the One

ਓਪਤਿ ਪਰਲਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਇਹ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੀ ॥੨॥
opat parla-o parabh tay hovai ih beechaaree har janee. ||2||
Creation and destruction come only from God; this is what the Lord's humble servants believe. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Everything that begins and everything that ends comes from the One alone.

This is what the One's humble servants think over and hold in mind.

Every beginning and every ending rests in the same loving hands.
The deeper layer

All beginnings and all endings come from the same One.

Opat parla-o means making and unmaking, the start and the end of everything. Parabh tay hovai means it all comes from the One. Think of the seasons in a garden. Leaves come out in spring and fall in autumn. The same garden holds both.

Ih beechaaree har janee means this is what the One's people think over. When you know that every start and every end rests in the same loving hands, your heart becomes steady. Endings do not have to feel so scary.

A Question to Sit With

Does it feel calming to think that things which end still belong to something whole?
