Sikhism·Raag Basant·Shabad 66
Verse 3 of 9

No Pillars Holding Up the Sky

bayd vakhaan kaheh ik kahee-ai.
The Vedas say that we should chant the Name of the One Lord.
oh bay-ant ant kin lahee-ai.
He is endless; who can find His limits?
ayko kartaa jin jag kee-aa.
There is only One Creator, who created the world.
baajh kalaa Dhar gagan Dharee-aa. ||2||
Without any pillars, He supports the earth and the sky. ||2||

In plain words

The Vedas, the old holy books, say: speak of the One.

The One is endless; who can find where the One ends?

There is only one Maker, who made the world.

With no pillars at all, the One holds up the earth and the sky.

One Maker holds up the whole sky with no pillars you can see.
The deeper layer

One endless Maker made the world and holds up the earth and the sky with no pillars.

Bed vakhaan kaheh ik kahee-ai — even the Vedas point to chanting the One. Baajh kalaa dhar gagan dhareeaa: without visible pillars, the One upholds earth and sky. The vastness is beyond measure (beant), yet it holds everything.

A Question to Sit With

What holds things up in the world that you cannot see?
