In plain words

Nanak says: I speak the beautiful, glorious Word.

Open your eyes, understand it, and take it to heart.

Take in these good words and let them help you see clearly.
The deeper layer

Good words, spoken with love, open your eyes so you can see clearly and understand.

In the closing couplet, Gun naanak bolai bhalee baan — Nanak speaks the sublime Word. Tum hohu sujaakhe leho pachhaan: become clear-sighted, understand and recognize. The invitation is to see clearly, which is the whole point of the hymn's critique of outer show.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you understand better once you look closely, instead of just glancing?
