Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Why are you so proud, looking at your things and your money?
When you must leave, none of it goes with you.
The things you pile up do not travel with you; hold them lightly.
Your things and your money stay behind when you leave, so pride in them has nothing to stand on.
Kaahe maal darab dekh garab jaahi — why swell with pride over property and wealth? Chaltee baar tero kachhoo naahi: when you move on, none of it goes along. A gentle loosening of the grip on possessions.
A Question to Sit With
What is something you own that you could hold a little more loosely?
