which causes the trees to flower, and the woods to grow lush foliage. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O bumblebee, drink in that fragrance —

the scent that bursts the trees into blossom and turns the whole woods green.

Drink in the fragrance of the Naam that turns the whole woods green.
The deeper layer

Drink in the fragrance that makes the trees flower and the woods turn green.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad, and its fullest spring picture. Aisee bhavraa baas lay — bee, take in that fragrance. Tarvar foole ban haray: the scent that flowers the trees and greens the woods. The Naam, the living presence of the One, is pictured as the very fragrance that wakes spring.

A Question to Sit With

What is a smell that instantly makes you feel like spring has arrived?
