In plain words

O my Master, Your child has come home, to rest in one place with You.

Meeting the True Guru, the child finds the Perfect One. Remembering the Naam of the One again and again, the child receives the One's mark of belonging.

The wandering mind rests the moment it comes home to the One.
The deeper layer

The wandering mind finds rest when it comes home to the One.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It is a prayer.

Mayray thaakur baalak ikat ghar aan — my Master, bring this child home, to one house. Thaakur means Master, the One who cares for us. The restless child does not settle by being forced. It settles by belonging. Think of a kid running around at a big party. When a parent holds out their arms, the running stops.

Satgur milai ta pooraa paa-ee-ai — meeting the True Guru, the Perfect One is found. Then comes bhaj raam naam neesaan. Raam naam is simply a name for the One's presence, sung again and again with love. A neesaan is a royal badge, like the crest on a school blazer. It shows that you belong to the One.

A Question to Sit With

Where is the place, inside or out, where you feel most like you belong?
