Found at Home in the Heart

mai nirkhat nirkhat sareer sabh khoji-aa ik gurmukh chalat dikhaa-i-aa.
I have examined and studied and searched my entire body, and as Gurmukh, I behold a miraculous wonder.
ਬਾਹਰੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਮੁਏ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
baahar khoj mu-ay sabh saakat har gurmatee ghar paa-i-aa. ||3||
All the faithless cynics searched outside and died, but following the Guru's Teachings, I have found the Lord within the home of my own heart. ||3||

In plain words

I looked and looked, searching all through my body, and turned toward the Guru, I was shown a wonder.

Those cut off from the One searched outside all their lives and died still searching. Following the Guru's teaching, I found the One at home, in my own heart.

The wonder you are looking for is already at home inside you.
The deeper layer

The One is found right at home, inside your own heart.

Nirkhat nirkhat sareer sabh khoji-aa — I looked and looked, all through myself. Then, as a gurmukh, one turned toward the teaching, I was shown a chalat, a wonderful play.

Baahar khoj mu-ay sabh saakat. A saakat is someone cut off from the One. They search only outside, far and wide. They search and search until they are worn out.

Har gurmatee ghar paa-i-aa — following the Guru's teaching, I found the One at home. Think of hunting all over the house for your glasses, then finding them on your own head. The treasure was never far away.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you searched everywhere for and finally found close by?
