The One Who Comes to the Humblest Door

ਦੀਨਾ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਜਿਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨੁ ਬਿਦਰ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
deenaa deen da-i-aal bha-ay hai ji-o krisan bidar ghar aa-i-aa.
God is Merciful to the meekest of the meek; Krishna came to the house of Bidar, a devotee of low social status.

Sudama loved God, who came to meet him; God sent everything to his home, and ended his poverty. ||4||

In plain words

The One is kind to the humblest of the humble — the way Krishna came to the house of Bidar, a devotee people looked down on.

Sudama loved the One with all his heart, and the One came to meet him, sent everything to his home, and ended his poverty.

Kindness loves the humblest door best of all.
The deeper layer

Grace goes straight to the humblest door.

Guru Ram Das shows this with two stories many families know.

Deenaa deen da-i-aal bha-ay hai — the One is kind to the humblest of the humble. Deen means poor or humble.

First story: krisan bidar ghar aa-i-aa — Krishna came to Bidar's house. Krishna was honoured everywhere. Bidar was a man of low social standing. Yet Krishna chose to eat at his simple home, rather than at a rich lord's palace.

Second story: mili-o sudaamaa bhaavnee Dhaar. Sudama was a poor childhood friend of Krishna. He came with almost nothing but bhaavnee, love and faith. And daalad bhanj — his poverty was ended.

Both stories carry Gurbani's steady message. The One is drawn to love and humility, far more than to rank or wealth. Think of a kind teacher who sits down first beside the new kid eating lunch alone. The lowest door is the one grace loves best.

A Question to Sit With

When has someone shown up for you not because of what you had, but just because they loved you?
