Not Diminished by One Grain

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਵਡੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਰਖਾਈ ॥
raam naam kee paij vadayree mayray thaakur aap rakhaa-ee.
Great is the glory of the Name of the Lord. My Lord and Master Himself has enshrined it within me.
Even if all the faithless cynics continue slandering me, it is not diminished by even one iota. ||5||

In plain words

Great is the glory of the Naam of the One. My Master Himself placed it within me and keeps it safe.

Even if everyone cut off from the One keeps speaking badly of me, it does not shrink by even one tiny grain.

What the One has placed in you cannot be shrunk by anyone's unkind words.
The deeper layer

The glory of the Naam is huge, and the One keeps it safe inside you.

Raam naam kee paij vadayree — great is the honour of the Name. Paij means honour, a good name. Mayray thaakur aap rakhaa-ee — my Master placed it in me and protects it.

Then the verse gives comfort. Jay sabh saakat karahi bakheelee — even if everyone cut off from the One speaks badly about me. Bakheelee means saying unkind things about someone behind their back. Ik ratee til na ghataa-ee — not one tiny grain is lost. A til is a sesame seed, one of the smallest seeds there is.

Think of a lamp switched on inside a house. People outside can shout at the window all night. The light inside stays just as bright. What the One has planted in you cannot be shrunk by anyone's unkindness.

If someone is being unkind to you or hurting you, that is never something you have to accept. Telling a grown-up you trust is always the right thing to do.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing inside you stays steady even when someone is unkind about it?
