Honored in Every Direction

ਜਨ ਕੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥

The Lord's Name is the praise of His humble servant. It brings him honor in the ten directions.

nindak saakat khav na sakai til apnai ghar lookee laa-ee. ||6||
The slanderers and the faithless cynics cannot endure it at all; they have set fire to their own houses. ||6||

In plain words

The Naam of the One is the praise of the One's humble servant, and it brings honor in all ten directions.

Those who tear others down, cut off from the One, cannot bear it even a little. They have only lit a fire in their own house.

Love brings honour from every side; carrying unkindness only burns the one who carries it.
The deeper layer

The Naam becomes the good name of the one who loves it.

Jan kee ustat hai raam naamaa — the praise of the One's humble jan, or servant, is the Name itself. Dah dis sobhaa paa-ee — they find sobhaa, honour, in all ten directions. That means everywhere.

Then comes a sharp picture. A nindak is someone who tears others down with words. Khav na sakai — they cannot bear it. Apnai ghar lookee laa-ee — they set fire to their own house. Read gently, this shows how resentment works. It burns the person who holds on to it. Think of picking up a hot coal to throw at someone. Your own hand gets burned first.

So there is no need to get even. Keep loving the Naam, and the honour takes care of itself.

A Question to Sit With

How does holding onto anger end up hurting you more than the person you are angry at?
