ta-o sarnaagat raha-o pa-i-aa. ||3||
May I remain in Your Sanctuary. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I am foolish and I understand so little. Please be kind to me.

Let me stay here, safe in Your shelter.

It is safe and good to say: I do not know much, so please keep me close.
The deeper layer

You can come with empty hands and ask the One to be kind and keep you close.

Mai moorakh mugaDh means I am foolish and do not understand. This is not saying "I am worthless." It is simply coming with empty hands and being honest.

Karahu da-i-aa means please be kind. Sarnaagat means refuge, a safe place. The whole prayer is just to stay in the One's care.

Think of a small child who is lost at a busy fair and reaches for a parent's hand. Asking for help like that is not weak. It is brave and wise.

A Question to Sit With

When you do not know what to do, who is someone safe you can go to?
