Raag Bhairao
Commentary

Raag Bhairao, Shabad, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan Dev)

"Such is the diamond, the immaculate Name; in an instant, it turns a life around."

The Arc

Ten thousand bows and a whole-hearted offering open the shabad; the rahau names the Name a flawless diamond. Then the house of pain is demolished, and the great fourfold refrain khin meh — "in an instant" — fills the empty, greens the dry, houses the homeless, honours the overlooked. It closes on the One who pervades all.

Key Vocabulary

  • Heeraa nirmal — the immaculate diamond; the Name.
  • Dukh dayraa dhahai — the house of pain demolished.
  • Khin meh — in an instant; immediacy.
  • Nimaanay ko maan — honour for the dishonoured.

Themes and Cross-Connections

"In an instant" turnarounds echo B00C2397's dry-wood-green and B00C2403's sudden waking. Honour for the overlooked carries the tradition's caste-leveling spirit.

For Raag Bhairao

The immediacy of khin meh is perfectly matched to intense Bhairao — grace as sudden dawn, not slow dusk.
