Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Naam is my crop, and the Naam is my field.
As Your humble servant, I worship You with love, and I come to Your shelter.
When the Naam is your field, you are never landless.
The Naam can be your land and your harvest both.
A weaver knew what it meant to have no land of his own. Here he says the Naam is his land and his harvest both — he is not landless after all. Bhagat karau jan saran tumhaari — “as Your servant I offer devotion; I take Your sanctuary.” The image is agricultural and humble at once: the divine is the soil you grow in and the food that keeps you alive.
A Question to Sit With
What is the “soil” you feel you grow from?
