Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Kabir says: the one whom the One keeps free inside, right in the middle of money and things — I am that person's servant.
The free heart is the one nothing can grab.
Staying free inside while surrounded by riches is a gift, and a rare one.
Maa-i-aa meh jis rakhai udaas — “the one whom the One keeps udaas (detached, unclutched) in the midst of Maya.” That freedom is given, kept that way by grace. And Kabir, who owns nothing, calls himself the daas (servant) of such a person. Freedom inside abundance is rarer, and higher, than the abundance itself.
A Question to Sit With
Can you imagine having a lot of something and still not being ruled by it?
