Sing to the Lord of the Universe, and never let the One slip from your mind.
This is the blessed chance of being born human; this is what a human life gains.
The gain of a human life is to remember the One with love.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad; the other verses grow out of it. Bhajahu gobind bhool mat jaahu: remember the Lord of the Universe and do not forget. Maanas janam kaa ayhee laahu: this is the gain of a human birth. Laahu is a trader's word for profit, and Kabir, a weaver who knew the market, uses it on purpose. Of all a life can earn, loving awareness of the One is the profit that stays.
