A Play Shown by Grace

ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੁ ਇਕੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
kar parsaad ik khayl dikhaa-i-aa.
By His Grace, He has staged this Play.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
gur kirpaa tay param pad paa-i-aa. ||3||
By the Guru's Merciful Grace, I have obtained the supreme status. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

By grace, the One has put on this one great play.

By the Guru's kindness, I have reached the highest state.

Seeing life as a play, shown by grace, loosens the grip of fear.
The deeper layer

Life is a play the One puts on by grace, and the highest state comes as the Guru's gift.

Kar parsaad ik khayl dikhaa-i-aa: by grace, the One has staged this play, khayl. Gur kirpaa tay param pad paa-i-aa: by the Guru's kindness, I have reached param pad, the highest state. It comes as a gift, never as a prize earned. Seeing life as a play loosens fear's grip.

A Question to Sit With

What changes when you can see a stressful situation as a kind of play?
