Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
My Lord and Master speaks always.
The One gives gifts to every living being.
The One worth turning to is living, speaking, and giving to every creature.
Your Lord is alive, always speaking, and giving gifts to every living being.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad, and its warm heart. Thaakur hamraa sad bolantaa: my Lord speaks forever, alive and answering. Sarab jee-aa ka-o prabh daan daytaa: the One gives gifts to all beings, the breath in you and the life in every sparrow. Against the silent stone, Guru Arjan sets the living, speaking, endlessly giving One. This is what the whole shabad is for: pointing to the living presence.
