Freed In The Company Of The Good

The mortal is emancipated only when he meets the Holy Saint. ||5||5||13||

In plain words

Even the gods are soaked in Maya,

and so are the oceans, Indra who rules the sky, and the earth.

Kabir says: whoever has a belly to fill lives under Maya's spell.

You are set free only when you meet a holy one.

You loosen the grip of wanting by keeping company with people who have already loosened it.
The deeper layer

You are set free from the pull when you find a holy one.

Maa-i-aa antar bheenay dayv: even the gods are soaked in maya. Saagar indraa ar dhartayv: so are the oceans, Indra, the old king of the sky, and the earth.

Kahi Kabeer jis udar tis maa-i-aa — Kabir says whoever has an udar, a belly to fill, feels this pull. As long as you are a living being with needs, the pull is there. There is no shame in that.

Tab chhootay jab saadhoo paa-i-aa — a person is set free on meeting the saadhoo, a good and holy soul. Being near such people is the heart of the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Freedom comes from the company you keep, right in the middle of the world. Think of learning to swim beside a strong swimmer. You pick up how to float just by being near them.

A Question to Sit With

Who in your life helps you want the right things?
