As Long As I Say Mine, Mine

jab lag mayree mayree karai.
As long as he cries out, "Mine! Mine!",
tab lag kaaj ayk nahee sarai.
none of his tasks is accomplished.
jab mayree mayree mit jaa-ay.
When such possessiveness is erased and removed,
tab parabh kaaj savaareh aa-ay. ||1||
then God comes and resolves his affairs. ||1||

In plain words

As long as a person keeps crying, "Mine! Mine!",

not one of their tasks gets done.

When that "mine, mine" is wiped away,

then the One comes and sets their affairs right.

When you stop clutching "mine," life finally has room to come together.
The deeper layer

While you clutch "mine, mine," nothing comes together; when the clutching fades, the One sets things right.

Mayree mayree, "mine, mine," is the voice of haumai, ego, the feeling of being a separate owner cut off from the whole. While it runs the show, kaaj ayk nahee sarai: not one thing gets done. When it dissolves, prabh kaaj savaareh aa-ay: the One comes and arranges the affairs. It comes as a gift, the moment the blocking "me" steps aside.

A Question to Sit With

When has holding on too tightly made something harder?
