In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

The One has built a fortress, hard to reach and hidden away, and lives there.

There the One's Light shines out. Lightning flashes, and joy fills the place where the ever-young One lives.

There is a bright, hidden place deep inside you where the One lives.
The deeper layer

Deep inside you is a hidden place where the Light of the One lives.

This is the start of an ashtapadee, a song of eight verses. Kabir calls that inner place agam darugam garh, a fortress hard to reach. It is the innermost room of the heart. There the jot, the divine Light, shines. Lightning flashes, and joy fills the air.

Think of a quiet treehouse hidden in the woods, where only you know the way. The One lives in a place like that inside you. Kabir calls the One baal gobind, forever young and always fresh. You reach this place by turning within.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to find a quiet, calm place deep inside yourself?
