A Silence Brighter Than Sun Or Moon

ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੋ ਕਾਸੁ ॥
araDh uraDh mukh laago kaas.
He is like the sky, stretching across the lower, upper and middle realms.
ਸੁੰਨ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
sunn mandal meh kar pargaas.
In the profoundly silent celestial realm, He radiates forth.
ਊਹਾਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਨਾਹੀ ਚੰਦ ॥

Neither the sun nor the moon are there,
ਆਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਅਨੰਦ ॥੫॥
aad niranjan karai anand. ||5||
but the Primal Immaculate Lord celebrates there. ||5||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Like the sky, the One stretches across the low, the high and everything in between.

In the realm of deep silence, the One shines.

There is no sun there and no moon, and the first, spotless One celebrates there.

In your deepest quiet, there is a light that needs no sun.
The deeper layer

In your deepest silence, a light shines that needs no sun or moon.

The One is like an open sky. It stretches through the low, the high, and everything in between. In the sunn mandal, the realm of silence, the One shines. It is the still center of awareness. No sun or moon is needed there.

There, aad niranjan, the first and spotless One, simply karai anand — delights. Niranjan means untouched and unstained. Think of waking early, before anyone else, when the whole house is quiet and calm. That stillness is not empty. It is full of quiet joy.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever felt a stillness inside that was full rather than empty?
