Sikhism·Raag Bhairao·Shabad 121
Verse 3 of 4

Living In Tune

ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਰਾ ॥
jin kai bheetar hai antraa.
Those whose inner beings are not in harmony with the Lord,
ਜੈਸੇ ਪਸੁ ਤੈਸੇ ਓਇ ਨਰਾ ॥੨॥
jaisay pas taisay o-ay naraa. ||2||
are nothing more than beasts. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those whose hearts are out of tune with the One

are just like animals, rough and unthinking.

Staying in tune with the One inside you keeps you awake to your best self.
The deeper layer

A heart out of tune with the One lives like an animal, rough and unthinking.

Antaraa is a gap inside, the inner being out of harmony with the One. Jaisay pas taisay o-ay naraa: such people are like animals. Staying in tune with the One is what keeps us fully, warmly human.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel in tune, instead of scattered?
