Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Those who do not remember the One, the Lord of all,
I do not even want to look at them.
The friends you keep can lift your heart higher.
Keep close to people who remember the One.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Jo na bhajantay naaraa-inaa: those who do not remember the One. Tin kaa mai na kara-o darsanaa: I do not even want to see them. The words are stern. Namdev is choosing his company. He wants to be among people whose hearts turn toward the One: the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One.
A Question to Sit With
Who is someone whose company makes you kinder or calmer?
