Verse 3 of 5

Riding High, Walking Bare

ਕਬਹੂ ਤੁਰੇ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਨਚਾਵੈ ॥
kabhoo turay turang nachaavai.
Sometimes, people prance around on horses.
ਕਬਹੂ ਪਾਇ ਪਨਹੀਓ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
kabhoo paa-ay panhee-o na paavai. ||2||
Sometimes, they do not even have shoes for their feet. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Sometimes people ride fine horses that prance and dance.

Sometimes they don't even have shoes for their feet.

Your worth is not measured by how high or low your day is going.
The deeper layer

A person can ride high one day and walk barefoot the next.

Kabhoo turay turang nachaavai: sometimes a person makes fine horses prance. Kabhoo paa-ay panhee-o na paavai: sometimes there are no shoes for the feet. Neither the high nor the low is the whole of a person; both pass.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever judged someone by how they looked, then learned more?
