Like A Child And Its Mother

jaisee pareet baarik ar maataa.
Like the love between the child and its mother,
aisaa har saytee man raataa.
so is my mind imbued with the Lord.
paranvai naamday-o laagee pareet.
Prays Naam Dayv, I am in love with the Lord.
gobid basai hamaarai cheet. ||4||1||7||
The Lord of the Universe abides within my consciousness. ||4||1||7||

In plain words

Like the love between a little child and its mother,

so my mind is dyed in the love of the One.

Namdev prays: I am in love with the One.

Gobind, the Lord of the World, lives in my mind.

You can belong to the One as safely as a child belongs with its mother.
The deeper layer

The One can be as close as a mother is to her little child.

"jaisee pareet baarik ar maataa" — like the love between a child and its mother. It is a feeling of safe, complete belonging. "aisaa har saytee man raataa" — just so, my mind is dyed in the One. Raataa means colored through, like cloth soaked in dye.

"gobid basai hamaarai cheet" — Gobid, the One, lives in my awareness. Namdev signs his name here, in a closing prayer. Think of a toddler who looks up from play just to check that Mom is still there. That is how near the One feels.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel completely safe and at home?
