Love That Never Breaks

ਸਾਈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
saa-ee pareet je aapay laa-ay.
But that alone is real love, which the Lord Himself inspires;
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਜਾਏ ॥
gur parsaadee dubiDhaa jaa-ay.
by Guru's Grace, duality is eradicated.
ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਤੂਟਸਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
kabahu na tootas rahi-aa samaa-ay.
Such love never breaks; through it, the mortal remains merged in the Lord.
ਨਾਮੇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥
naamay chit laa-i-aa sach naa-ay. ||3||
Naam Dayv has focused his consciousness on the True Name. ||3||

In plain words

True love is the love the One Itself awakens.

By the Guru's grace, the feeling of being split in two goes away.

That love never breaks, and you stay merged in the One.

Namdev has set his mind on the True Name.

The love the One awakens in you is the one that never breaks.
The deeper layer

The truest love is the One's own gift.

"saa-ee pareet je aapay laa-ay" — that alone is true love, the love the One awakens. By the Guru's grace, dubidhaa goes away. Dubidhaa means the feeling of being split in two, of being separate from the One.

"kabahu na tootas rahi-aa samaa-ay" — such love never breaks, and the person stays merged in the One. Namdev's mind comes to rest on the True Name. Think of a knot tied by a sailor. It holds, however hard the wind pulls.

A Question to Sit With

What is a love in your life that feels like it will always be there?
