In plain words

"He keeps chanting the Naam of Raam,

and he holds the One's remembrance in his heart."

You can carry the One in your heart like a treasure, all day long.
The deeper layer

Keep the Naam on your lips and the One in your heart.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

Raam naamaa japibo karai means "he keeps repeating the Name of Raam." Hirdai har jee ko simran dharai means "he keeps the One's remembrance in his heart." Hirdai is the heart. Simran is loving remembrance, keeping someone in mind all day.

Think of a child who wears a locket with a grandparent's photo. They touch it all day long, even when no one sees. That is what Prahlaad does with the Naam.

He is only a boy, yet his love holds steady against every pressure. That steady heart is what the whole story is about.

A Question to Sit With

What is something good you like to keep close in your thoughts?
