I Will Wake the Cow

ਕਹਹਿ ਤ ਮੁਈ ਗਊ ਦੇਉ ਜੀਆਇ ॥
kaheh ta mu-ee ga-oo day-o jee-aa-ay.
If you wish, I shall bring the dead cow back to life.
ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਦੇਖੈ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥੧੮॥
sabh ko-ee daykhai patee-aa-ay. ||18||
Everyone will see and be convinced."||18||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

"If you wish, I will bring the dead cow back to life.

Everyone will see it, and everyone will be sure."

Wonders are for opening eyes, not showing off.
The deeper layer

The wonder is offered so that everyone watching can see and trust.

Kaheh ta mu-ee ga-oo day-o jee-aa-ay: if you wish, I will give the dead cow life. Sabh ko-ee daykhai patee-aa-ay: everyone will see and be convinced. Patee-aa means trust, being sure. The wonder is for settling doubt and opening hearts, never for dazzling. It leads to the gentle lesson Namdev gives the king at the very end.

A Question to Sit With

What's something you'd want other people to finally understand?
