Subduing his duality, he contemplates God. ||1||

In plain words

The silent sage is the one who calms the two-way pull in their own mind.

With that two-way pull calmed, they think deeply about the One.

The wisest person is the one who's quieted the tug-of-war inside their own mind.
The deeper layer

Calm the two-way pull in your mind, and you can think clearly about the One.

So mun je man kee dubidhaa maaray: the mun, the silent sage, is the one who quiets dubidhaa, the mind pulled two ways at once. Dubidhaa maar barahm beechaaray: with that tug-of-war settled, they reflect on the One. Think of a pond: once the water is still, you can see to the bottom.

A Question to Sit With

When your mind is pulled two ways, what helps you settle it?
