har jee-o apnee kirpaa Dhaar.
O Dear Lord, please shower me with Your Mercy,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh naamay lagai pi-aar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that as Gurmukh, I may embrace love for Your Name. ||1||Pause||

O Dear One, please pour Your mercy on me,
so that, turned toward the Guru, I may come to love Your Naam.
Ask for grace, and love for the Naam is awakened in you.
Love for the Naam is a gift you can ask for.
This is the rahao, the pause line, the centre of the shabad. Har jee-o apnee kirpaa dhaar: O Dear One, pour out Your kirpaa, Your mercy. Gurmukh naamay lagai pi-aar: so that, facing the Guru, pi-aar, love, for the Naam takes hold. The love is awakened as a gift.
