He does not remember the Lord's Name, even in his dreams. He is never in love with the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

The life of the one who follows only their own mind is a life gone to waste in this world.

They do not remember the Naam of the One, not even in their dreams. They never fall in love with the One.

Turn toward the Name and let a little love for it grow — that love fills the hollow places.
The deeper layer

A life that never remembers the One, not even in dreams, ends up empty.

This is the pause line, the rahaa-o, the center of the shabad. A manmukh is someone who follows only their own wants, facing away from the Guru. The verse uses a strong word, dhrig, and calls such a life cursed. The feeling underneath is emptiness.

Raam naam supnai nahee chayti-aa — they don't remember the Naam even in their dreams. Their heart never once turns toward the One.

Think of a song with the tune left out. The drums are there, and the words are there, but something is missing. Har si-o pi-aar — love for the One — is what such a life is missing.

A Question to Sit With

What is one small thing you could do each day to keep the One in mind?
