In plain words

Chant the Naam of the One, Har, Har, the One who fills even the wild forest.

Be kind, O One, and bring me into the Sangat, so the net of Maya, the pull of shiny things that drags toward death, breaks and lets me go.

Chant the Naam, and the tangled net of illusion breaks and lets you go.
The deeper layer

Ask to be in the Sangat, and the tangled net of the world's shiny pull breaks and lets you go.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Har har naam japahu banvaalee — chant the Naam of the One. Banvaalee means the One of the forest. It is a name that says the One is everywhere, even deep in the wild woods.

Then comes a prayer. Be kind, and bring me into the satsangat, the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One.

Why? So that maa-i-aa jam jaalee breaks. Maa-i-aa is the pull of the world, the shiny things that tangle us up. The verse calls it a deadly net. Think of a kite string caught in a tree. Friends who help you tug gently can set it free. The Sangat does that for the heart. The tangle loosens, and you are let go.

A Question to Sit With

What tangles you up that you'd like to feel free of?
